HECA provides an email Listserv as a professional development opportunity for our members. Please follow the instructions below to join and use the Listserv. HECA Listserv Terms of Service and Etiquette Guidelines

What is the HECA Listserv?

The HECA Listserv is an email based discussion group that HECA members can use to share information and answers with other HECA members. It is only open to current HECA members.

Please note: the Listserv is not on the HECA website, but in a separate email system. You must subscribe separately to it. To participate in the Listserv, please follow the instructions below.

To Join Listserv

If you’d like to join the Listserv, please send an email to [email protected] with the words “Join HECA Listserv” in the subject line. You will receive a return email when your registration has been completed. You will then immediately begin to receive the
Listserv through emails which will arrive in your email mailbox.

To Post a Message to the Listserv

After you have received confirmation that your registration is complete, you can participate in Listserv discussions, by sending an email to this address: [email protected]. They will be posted to the Listserv after you have received and reply to a confirmation email from the list (this is to help prevent spam issues). You must confirm the post within TWO DAYS otherwise the system will delete your attempted posting. Important: be sure to send your message from the email address that you are subscribed to the Listserv with, otherwise the system will not recognize you! To confirm, reply to the message with OK. The correct form of the command is just ‘OK’, with no period after it.

Before beginning to post to the group, it is wise to simply observe and read the Listserv for a few days or weeks. Once you get a sense of the types of questions and discussions on the Listserv, feel free to join in the discussion. However, be sure to read the HECA Listserv Terms of Service/Etiquette Guidelines before making your first post in order to get the most out of your participation.

If you are having problems posting to the Listserv

Make sure you are posting from the email address which you used to subscribe to the list.

If the above is not the problem, check to see if you’ve included a logo or other piece of artwork in your message. The system will often reject messages with large logos as spam, especially if logo is sent as an attachment. The easiest solution is to take your logo off the message.

Also, the system will not accept attachments. If you try to send one, the system will automatically reject your message as spam.

After posting you will receive an email to confirm your post. Sometimes this confirmation email gets sent to spam, so check your spam folder.

If the above does not apply to you, check to see that your email client is set to send messages in TEXT format, not HTML.

If all the above does not apply, check to see if your security settings in your email or server have changed recently and add the @lists.hecaonline.org to your address safe list.

To change the email address where you receive Listserv posts

Click on this link: HECA Listserv

  1. The first time you visit, you will need to choose a password by entering your email and the password you want. Click on the blue words “get a new LISTSERV password” in the login box. On the next screen you will enter the email address under which you are subscribed to the Listserv, then the password you want to use, repeated for confirmation. The system will send you an email confirming your password. Once you have your password, sign in using the email where you currently receive posts from the HECA Listserv and your password.
  2. When you log in, if you see Subscriber’s Corner in the upper left, click on the HECAMEMBERLIST link in the middle of the page. (If you see Listserv Archive in the upper left, go to the menu graphic on right side of page (three horizontal lines) and under “Preferences” select “Start Page” to be Subscriber’s Corner. Make sure to click Update to save. Then log out and in again. Follow directions above).
  3. After clicking on the list name, click on the menu icon (three horizontal lines) on the right hand side of the page and select “Subscribe or Unsubscribe.”
  4. Change your email as desired.
  5. Click on the Update Options button at the bottom of the page to save your change. The change will go into effect immediately.

To set the Listserv to Digest mode

When you are initially subscribed to the Listserv, you will receive each post to the Listserv in a separate email to your mailbox. If you would prefer to have posts combined and sent to you in a single email periodically, you need to change your subscription to Digest mode. Digest mode will send all Listserv postings to you in a single email at the time interval you specify (i.e., daily, weekly, etc.) instead of one by one. To set your account to Digest mode follow the following steps:

  1. Click on this link: HECA Listserv
  2. The first time you visit, you will need to choose a password by entering your email and the password you want. Note: the email you use must be the same one you are subscribed with and receive mail from the Listserv on.The system will then send you an email confirming your password which you can use to sign in.
  3. When you have successfully signed in, click on the Subscriber’s Corner (blue highlighted word) in upper left corner, then go to the middle of the page in the My Lists section, you should see HECAMEMBERLIST. Click on the blue [settings] link and choose “Digest”.

To set the Listserv to Regular mode

Regular mode will send you all Listserv postings as they come through the system. By default all new Listserv subscriptions are automatically set to Regular mode. If you have set your Listserv to Digest and now want to change it to Regular, follow these steps:

  1. Click on this link: HECA Listserv
  2. The first time you visit, you will need to choose a password by entering your email and the password you want. Note: the email you use must be the same one you are subscribed with and receive mail from the Listserv on. The system will then send you an email confirming your password which you can use to sign in.
  3. When you have successfully signed in, click on the [settings] link and choose “Regular”.

To access and search the Listserv Archive

All posts to the Listserv are automatically archived, and the archives can be a good place to track down questions that have already been answered on the Listserv. To search the Listserv Archive follow these steps:

  1. Click on this link: HECA Listserv
  2. You will be prompted to sign in. If this is the first time you have visited, you will need to choose a password by entering your email and the password you prefer. Note: the email must be the same as the email with which you are subscribed to the Listserv. The system will then send you an email confirming your password which you can use to sign in.
  3. When you have successfully signed in, click on the blue “Subscriber’s Corner” in the upper left hand corner of the window if you don’t see “Search Archives” below in the list under the Subscriber’s Corner. Now in the middle of the page you should see a box that has all the lists you are subscribed to and under that a blue HECAMEMBERLIST link which once you click on it will take you to the archives, ordered by date and most recent posts.   4. Once you are in the archives, the search function for the archives is a box above the list entries. You can do a simple search by keyword.

To Unsubscribe from the Listserv

If you wish to unsubscribe from the Listserv, follow these directions:

  1. Click on this link: HECA Listserv
  2. You will be prompted to sign in. If this is the first time you have visited, you will need to choose a password by entering your email and the password you prefer. You may choose to use the same password that you use to log into the website, however, the Listserv system will not recognize that password until you have set it up. The Listserv system will then send you an email confirming your password which you can use to log in.
  3. When you have successfully logged in, click on the [settings] link. At the bottom of the page, you will see a button that says LEAVE HECAMEMBERLIST. Click on the button to be removed from the Listserv.

Important

The HECA Listserv is confidential and is only open to current HECA members. You should not publicly mention its existence or forward copies of information you have obtained from it to third parties.
